Sheraton Makeover Gets Royal Debut

Parsippany hotel's $20 million renovation offers lush new decor and green-friendly focus.

Beefeater-style trumpeters heralded a red-carpet ribbon-cutting and grand re-opening for the . Mayor James Barberio, Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce, Police Chief Anthony DeZenzo, President Robert Peluso and about 150 other guests were on hand for the unveiling of the hotel's new $20 million renovations.

Sheraton Sales and Marketing Director Scott Behm said the job that began last summer was extensive.

"From the moment you walk in, you can see it," he told Patch. "We've got a new lobby, a new living room, new elevators and a totally transformed fitness center. And then upstairs, all new guest room suites and quarters."

Behm said the refurbishment came about in answer to guests who wanted a more refined, upscale experience. And it appears they've gotten what they asked for: decor featuring splashes of color and a warm ambience, elegant artwork and adornments throughout, textured guest room walls, large flat-screen televisions and amenities galore.

In addition, said General Manager Sean Verney, the hotel re-do accomplishes owner Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide's wish for the establishment to be environmentally sound.

"Our goal was to make the Sheraton sustainable and to reduce its carbon footprint," Verney said.

And in fact, the re-done hotel earned an Energy Star Award for its commitment to being green.

The Sheraton refurbishment signals good things for Parsippany, said Mayor Barberio.

"They're staying in Parsippany," he said. "The Sheraton has been part of the fabric of Parsippany for years. This is where I had my inauguration two years ago, on Jan. 1, 2010. I have very good memories here. And the Sheraton is very committed to being a part of Parsippany.

"I commend [the management] and I congratulate them."

PACC President Peluso said the hotel's investment into its future is a sign of good things for the township's business community as a whole.

"It means we're keeping businesses in town and that businesses are investing in the community," he said. "We're supporting 170 jobs of the people who work in this facility. In essence, this is an important project because it supports economic development in Parsippany."
