Wegmans Plans to Move to Morris County

Pending Hanover Township approval, grocery store could soon move into region.

Wegmans is coming to the area.

Hanover Township will be the home of a brand-new branch of the upscale supermarket, according to the Mack-Cali Realty Corporation.

Wegmans Food Markets Inc. will rent an undeveloped site at Sylvan Way and Ridgedale Avenue. Should the project obtain all necessary government approvals, the company will build a 140,000 square foot store.

No projected dates for construction or the store opening were provided.

Mack-Cali said in a statement that it intends to lease the remainder of the site—about 40,000 additional square feet—to other retailers.

“A supermarket of this caliber will be a welcome addition to Hanover Township and the surrounding towns in Morris County," Mack-Cali President and CEO Mitchell E. Hersh said in the company statement. "This was a great opportunity to put our strategically located land bank to use in a diverse manner.”

Wegmans currently has seven New Jersey locations in Bridgewater, Cherry Hill, Manalapan, Mt. Laurel, Ocean, Princeton and Woodbridge.

Good news!

Shows how much you know...From the Wegmans web site...."At Wegmans we have long partnered with farmers that are local to each store, providing our customers with the freshest fruits and vegetables possible. When you buy produce that’s labeled "locally grown," you’re not only getting the best quality, you’re supporting your local farmer and community, and helping to reduce the impact on the environment by shrinking the carbon footprint from the farm to you. Taking steps—even little steps—together can make a difference." Again, your comments waste our time.
Richard E. Templin July 13, 2012 at 06:39 PM
Oh boy! You clearly have no sense of humor. Plus for a guy that claims to be my neighbor, you don't know a single thing about me do you?. Well here is a hint, I use to live in Doylestown, PA. That is a big market for Wegmans, so ofcourse I know. Here is a problem with your facts, there is no evidence to indicate that local farming produces a lower carbon footprint. The latest studies show that it actually is worse for the environment. Unfortunately, the economy of scale just doesn't allow for local farming to work anymore. In reality, this is just a marketing gimic that is really doing more harm then good.

Great news & a great place for shopping.
Dave 2 July 13, 2012 at 07:16 PM
First - I have never claimed to be your neighbor (or ever wish to be). Second - They are not my facts, the quote was taken from the Wegmans web site. Hence the quotes. Very creative answer when proven wrong.....again..... I think we all fail to see the humor in your post.

Yeah you said that it is over here (http://chatham.patch.com/articles/green-villagers-sue-twp-over-market-garden-ordinance#comments). Plus you did it as Dave 2. Dude. You got to stop using all these different aliases. You don't even seem to know which conversation you are having or when you said something contrary to what you are saying now. Use your real name, you will get some respect at least. Although, then the police might be paying alot more attention to you. So forget I said that. http://www.savegreenvillage.com/
Richard E. Templin July 13, 2012 at 07:50 PM
Dave 2, Based on all the first hand knowledge you seem to have about the intermost workings of Danny's mind, you have got to be either his biological twin or assuming your alias name is at least gender honest, you are his "life partner". Not that there is anything wrong with that! I personally like the ladies, but I am not one to judge. If I come across as a little flipid, I am sorry. You have to understand, my first job was in the Illinois government in Springfield, Illinois. As a result, I am somewhat familiar with farming issues and farmers. The farmers I have dealt with here in New Jersey seem to swing to another cow bell if you get my drift. As a result, I really don't know to respond to you critters sometimes. Back in Illinois, if it got this heated we just settled old school and then had a beer together.
Dave 2 July 13, 2012 at 08:26 PM
What are you talking about "Yeah you said that it is over here (http://chatham.patch.com/articles/green-villagers-sue-twp-over-market-garden-ordinance#comments). Plus you did it as Dave 2."? What does using a screen name have to do with anything? I have no other aliases and I am not Dan Miller. Mr. Templin - I know the facts very well and what you are doing and saying is wrong. I am only here to challenge your every misleading statement, lie and accusation. You seem to think you can drum up an audience by misleading and scaring the residents of Chatham by posting your hack web site and post one sided false statements. The truth is, people are not following this story or these posts because it is so ridicules (notice it is only you and I posting back and forth). I am extremely knowledgeable of my rights and the laws of this great Country. Please don’t try and scare me with your childish "the police are watching.." This response is a typical reaction from you when proven wrong. You keep posting lies, misleading statements, false accusations and I will keep making you look like a fool, its that simple.

I would love to read an article without seeing your nonsense follow it. Do you honestly have nothing better to do?
LoveChatham July 13, 2012 at 11:29 PM
I didn't realize that my comment would fall under dave 2....It was addressed to Templin. However, reguarding Dave 2 - Templin makes a fool of himself all on his own and doesn't need the validation of someone offering rebuttal.

Will it be off Route 10 west ?
clyde donovan July 14, 2012 at 12:53 AM
Sylvan and Ridgedale is Route 10 West. I would prefer to see Wegmans redevelop the Hanover Pathmark site or the former Acme at the Rockaway Town Square Mall. There's already enough development between Route 287 in Hanover and Route 202 in Parsippany. However it's Morris County and developers buy all the politicans here.
parhome July 14, 2012 at 02:06 AM
The Hanover Pathmark site would have been a good spot. I thought I heard Foodtown is re-opening there - which at one time did house Foodtown, before Pathmark.
Louise Ciccone July 14, 2012 at 11:33 AM
Rumor has it Trader Joe's is looking at the Whippany Pathmark. It may be entirely unrelated, but the Stop and Shop at 10 and 202 seems to be expanding their natural/organic sections - perhaps it's preemptive? Wegmans AND TJ's? I would be beside myself!

Sounds good to me. I just visited a Wegman's in Pennsylvania, and was very favorably impressed by the selection and the store layout.
Susan B. July 14, 2012 at 02:50 PM
So happy Wegman's might come to Hanover. I really like the store. As for all that mess that preceeds this between Dave 2 and Templin. Why can't we just all try to get along. Who needs to fight over who is right about local farming and organic fruits and vegetables? The Patch is supposed to be a place to share information not get all up in the face of readers. Relax. Have a smoothie. :)

Great store - I hope they eventually replace every other grocery store- soooooo much better
Brian Sniatkowski July 14, 2012 at 05:20 PM
Love Wegmans! Still a little too far for me unfortunately
JB July 15, 2012 at 03:07 PM
Great news!
Dave 2 July 16, 2012 at 02:49 PM
Templin- You are completely incapable of posting a comment that isn’t full of lies. I am not an owner, employee or family member of any business associated with the Market Garden Ordinance or any other business in Chatham (Township or Boro). Your comments posted on this page were done with clear intent by you to try and drum up support by making false accusations and lies. This is not the only article that you posted comments on that had nothing to do with the subject at hand.
Sir July 16, 2012 at 02:54 PM
I am in favor of the commerical farming ordinance. Let people make a living. If you don't like it, move.
MorrisMom July 16, 2012 at 05:22 PM
All we'd need next is a Whole Foods and we'd have hit the Trifecta!!
tina July 17, 2012 at 03:59 PM
I hope it's true. I love Wegmans! A good spot for the store would of been on Rt 10 West, where Linen and things, Borders were in East Hanover. They sure have enough parking there.
Andrew July 20, 2012 at 02:35 AM
"Upscale" is misleading, it implies high prices. Wegmans is whole foods quality (better actually) at shoprite prices. I'm from WNY and am of course a big fan.
Wanda McColgan September 28, 2012 at 08:00 PM
Can't wait love the store
Donna Pastena January 15, 2013 at 11:28 AM
Please tell me this is true??!!! I love Wegmans & I can't stand shopping @ Livingston Shoprite. When will construction start??
