What Should Fill Baldwin Shopping Center Vacancies?

Patch wants to hear your ideas for filling empty business buildings.

The Baldwin Shopping Center is a tidy little strip mall that stands at the intersection of Baldwin Road and bustling Route 46. The center is not especially large and it is presently being renovated, providing more attractive exteriors for some really cool merchants.

There is the , recently named the Parsippany Patch Readers' Choice winner for Best Italian Restaurant. There is , which this week is one of the contenders in the Readers' Choice contest. And there are others, among them ,  and .

But the shopping center's marquee sign features a lot of empty spaces where merchants' names should be, and that does not sit well for a town that needs to boost its ratables.

Tell us: What types of retail businesses do you think would fit into the Baldwin Shopping Center? Keep in mind the interesting nature of this mall, right near residential homes and apartments, a church and the Route 46 commercial thoroughfare.

Let us know your thoughts and suggestions in the comments. We will take your suggestions and pass them along to the person working to build the business base, Mayor James Barberio, who said he's looking forward to seeing what his constituents think.

Who knows? You idea just may be the one to fill up a cool little strip mall. Share your thoughts below.

Rather than pose this question for every vacancy in the town, can you post on the Patch when a new store/business has signed? Hope there will be many to report, we need lots of help.

123abc: We will be happy to let you know when vacancies are filled. The idea of this series, however, is to give the township input regarding the problem directly from residents. Thanks for your thought!

I think a trader Joe's would be a lot for a small mall like this. BUT...Trader Joe's would probably do well around the corner on route 46 where Walgreen's is vacating to go around the corner on Baldwin Rd....A big store like Walgreen's and a trader Joe's is too much for Baldwin Roads traffic patterns. Just my humble opinion. I live on Baldwin Rd.

It is a good mall. And the more merchants the better. Baldwin Bagel's and Pizzeria are awesome. The Baldwin Pizzeria in my opinion has better pizza than the guy around the corner Anthony Franco's. Sorry AF. Not to big of a store is good. Traffic patterne son Baldwin Rd. are important.

Trader Joe's would totally work on Rt. 46 where the Walgreens is.... But for Baldwin I would love to see Pepperidge Farm go there!!! I so miss them since they left Troy Hills Shopping Center!

A Trader Joe's sounds like a really good idea. A kosher style deli, might work too. We've had them come and go over the years, leaving a gap in a need for a small sit down restaurant that's not fast food and not too expensive.

Why have we lost dozens of businesses in town, and why do businesses keep moving from one mall to another (it's like using a dart board here today their tomorrow) ? Are landlords too greedy? Yes the town leaders ought to keep and find ways to make commerce succeed in Parsippany.

I know this is about the Baldwin rd strip mall, but I' just like to agree with the previous posters requesting a Trader Joes in the soon to be vacated Walgreens space. Many people I've spoken to expressed similar interest in a nearby TJs. If not in this space then perhaps in the vacancy left by Michaels.

I'd love to see a Trader Joe's too

Has the Mayor who is requesting more office and retail space contacted Trader Joe?

I agree with the Starbucks suggestion. There are several Dunkin Donuts in Parsippany, but not even one Starbucks. Since their locations seem to be all different sizes, I think it would be easy for a new Starbucks to fit into one of the current vacancies. And the addition of such a popular place would bring customers into the other stores as well.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A CLOTHING STORE LIKE ANNIE SEZ OR A CHRISTMAS TREE SHOP

I agree with the Starbucks suggestion, or even an independent coffee shop/lounge. I also agree that Baldwin Road could not handle the traffic brought in by a Trader Joe's, and there would not be enough parking for TJ in the Baldwin Plaza. Trader Joe's would definitely work in the current Walgreen's space in Troy Hills shopping center though.
