Morris Habitat Gets Children’s Picnic Tables from Suburban Propane

Randolph, NJ:  Over the years, Morris Habitat has learned that partnering with others is not only the best way to accomplish something, it also beneficial to those involved.  A recent partnership resulted in a win-win-win situation!

When Sandy Zwickel, AVP of Human Resources at Suburban Propane in Whippany was looking for a team building exercise for her HR management team, she wanted something that would give the members “face time” in a relaxed setting.  She also knew she wanted it to be a unique project that would help others and, lastly, something that could be completed in a relatively short time.  Sandy turned to HR consulting firm, A.J. O’Connor Associates (AJO) for options.  AJO recommended Caring Capital, a national company located in Morristown, which designs and leads team-building programs for companies.

Connecting with Suburban Propane’s theme of “Hearth and Home,” Susie Schub, President of Caring Capital, suggested building children’s picnic tables and donating them to Morris Habitat.

On the day of the event Susie and two of Caring Capital’s professional teaching artists arrived at Suburban Propane to set up the required tools and supplies.  Before starting the project, Blair Bravo, Executive Director of Morris Habitat for Humanity, addressed the company’s management team, telling them about Morris Habitat’s mission and goals.  She also told them about the two families, future Habitat homeowners, that they would be helping.

Once the HR members were divided into two teams they quickly built the picnic table and benches and then set out to customize them; even personalizing the tables with the names of the homeowners’ children.  After just two hours, the picnic tables were built, the teams knew each better, and two Morris Habitat families will receive adorable children’s picnic tables for their future backyards. The efforts of this one group will bring many hours of enjoyment to these hard-working families!
