For Some Children with ADHD, Music has Similar Positive Effects to Medication

Great article on the impact of music on children with ADHD.

I'm sharing an article that speaks to the impact music has on children with ADHD. As a clinician who works with students with ADHD regularly, many have shared their experience with me that background music while completing homework is helpful and actually improves focus.  Now I see the research is here to back up the insight that many of my clients have.

Although distracting for those without ADHD, music serves as constant background noise and is better than silence.  So, parents, when your child puts on the music to do homework, let him/her, and in fact, encourage it!

Giving children "speed" and making them listen to music sounds like you're turning you children into drugged up 1960s hippies. People who do this should be prosecuted.

Clyde Donovan- Please don't misunderstand; nobody is supporting the use of illicit drugs with children with ADHD. This article examines the positive effects of music on children and adolescents with ADHD and how it can actually mimic, physiologically, the same calming and regulating effects as medication.
