2012 Budget Wins Speedy Final Approval

Council also OKs a small reduction in the open space tax rate.

The Town Council's special meeting to give final consideration to the nearly $69 million municipal budget Tuesday night was a case of blink, and you might miss it.

In about 10 minutes, the council raced through approvals for three ordinances:

  • one intended to authorize an emergency appropriation of $888,050 for retirement payouts
  • one allowing the body to exceed the municipal budget appropriation limits and to establish a Cap Bank
  • a third lowering the Open Space Trust Fund tax from "an amount of less than two cents per $100 of assessed valuation" to "an amount of less than 1.75 cents" per $100 of assessed value.

The three were passed easily with no discussion and no debate.

The vote on the Municipal Budget and Tax Resolution for 2012 followed and moved just as breezily: When given the opportunity by President Brian Stanton, no members of the public stepped forward to ask any questions. The vote then came, with council members approving the $68,993,303.21 spending plan unanimously.
