'Anything Goes' When Hills Thesps Hit the Stage This Week

Lots happening in the township this week

On Monday and Tuesday this week, Parsippany and North Caldwell will say goodbye to U.S. Army Sgt. Derek McConnell, who died March 18 of still unknown causes.

A viewing takes place from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Par-Troy Funeral Home, 92 Parsippany Road. A funeral mass will be held in North Caldwell at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 359 Central Ave.

The Parsippany Township Council meets for its second special budget session at 6 p.m. Monday. The public is invited for the Town Hall gathering, in which council members go through various line items of Mayor James Barberio's proposed 2013 municipal spending plan. The third and final session is scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Zoning Board of Adjustments is scheduled to take up consideration yet again on a long-deliberated proposal to construct an International Society of Krishna Consciousness temple at Baldwin and Troy roads. The public is invited to take part in the meeting, which starts at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Thursday is opening night for the production of 'Anything Goes' at Parsippany Hills High School. The musical, which features a jaunty score by the great Cole Porter, runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Hills. Tickets are $10 general, $5 for seniors and free for all Par-Troy students. We'll offer a preview in the morning of a show shooting for the top.

Another project under ZBA consideration is a long-underway effort to build an affordable housing for veterans in transition called Zandy's Acres on Old Dover Road. This Friday we hope finally to bring you a behind the scenes look at the project featuring its skipper, 83-year-old Seymour Zandell. He says he's taken on this huge task for one reason: "I'm a veteran."
