Belly Dancing and Council Talks Sewer Fees This Week

Get ready for another busy week in the township.

Fitness is all the rage these days, and as we are learning via our Patch Takes It Off challenge, Parsippany is teeming with ways to get and stay fit. This week, we'll share our experience at Parsippany's new Title Boxing Club (and we'll try out the new Crossfit Lake Parsippany too!).

And Monday at 8 p.m., you can try another form of exercise: belly dancing. Parsippany High School, at 309 Baldwin Road, offers an advanced beginner/intermediate course in Middle Eastern Belly Dancing. The cost of the course is $50 and you must be 16 or over to participate. The class kicked off in February, so contact the teacher regarding registration at 973-263-7180, ext. 4342.

The Parsippany Township Council meets for its monthly business meeting at a special location, Parsippany High School, 309 Baldwin Road. As announced last week, the Waterview controversy is not on the agenda for discussion, but it may arise during the gathering's public comment portion. The body is expected to discuss, among other matters, a proposed ordinance to set sewer fees; a resolution that would support sustainable state funding for the preservation and stewardship of open space, parks, farmland and historic sites; and other resolutions that would allocate additional money from the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Fund to the Rose House and New Bridge Services, Inc. for the Henry Street and Moraine Road group home projects.

The town's Zoning Board of Adjustment meets at Town Hall Wednesday to continue its consideration of a proposed veterans' group home called Zandy's Acres. Patch will preview the discussion with a profile on Seymour Zandell, the retired Navy man determined to ensure vets get the help they need transitioning back to civilian life and the workforce.

Parsippany Superintendent of Schools LeRoy Seitz officially retires May 15, but he actually leaves at the end of this week to burn off accrued but unused leave. Patch will feature a final profile of the longtime educator and talk about the ups and downs he's experienced leading public schools in Morris County's largest municipality.

As we learn more about green living and sustainability, many houses of worship say being good stewards of their creator's world means eco-friendliness increasingly is next to godliness. Temple Adath Shalom, at 841 Mountain Way, is the first institution in the country to earn the GreenFaith Energy Shield award for adopting a comprehensive approach to using energy responsibility. On Sunday at 11 a.m., the synagogue will receive its award from Mayor James Barberio during a brief ceremony.
