Grand Singing, Shriners Circus in Town This Week

Municipal budget expected to be discussed at Township Council meeting.

The search continues for people willing to open their homes to foreign exchange students.

Parsippany residents have that opportunity every day this week, including Thursday, as Host an International Student this Summer registration events are held at 4 Gatehall Drive. Students come from Spain, France, Germany, China and Hong Kong. Host families can earn up to $2,000 for three weeks this summer; a stipend of $250 per student per session is offered, and you can host up to four students. The Parsippany Township Council meets 7:30 p.m. Tuesday  at Parsippany High School for its monthly regular meeting. Among the items expected to be discussed is the proposed 2013 municipal budget, which last week won approval for introduction by a 3-2 council vote.

The township Zoning Board of Adjustment, fresh from rejecting again a controversial Mountain Way townhouse development proposal, takes on its next building challenges when it meets Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Wednesday also marks the presentation of the 2013 Wallenberg Awards. Named for the Holocaust hero Raoul Wallenberg, these annual honors go to New Jersey middle and high school students students from 10 counties who have demonstrated courage and compassion in serving their communities and schools. The circus is coming to town: The Shrine Circus, a full three-ring circus featuring Grandma the Clown and "America's Got Talent" winner the Olate Dogs comes to Morris County Thursday and runs through Sunday. Also slated to appear include the Terrific tigers of Brunon Blaszak and the Sensational Espanas, who perform midair motorcycle madness on the inclined high wire. 

Tickets run from $15-$20 and can be purchased via the Shrine Circus website. Performances take place at the Mennen Sports Arena, 161 E. Hanover Ave. Thursday shows are at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday shows are at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the fun begins at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. And the big-top closing shows are Sunday at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The  Mt. Tabor Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary host their first-ever Fish Fry Fundraiser Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the District 1 Firehouse, 909 Tabor Road. Fish and chicken tender dinners with the fixings will be available for on-site enjoyment or carryout. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Kids ages 12 and under only pay $7.50. Funds raised support the work of the MTVFD. To get tickets, contact your favorite MTVFD member or call the firehouse at 973-538-3047 for more info. Tickets are also available in the MTVFD website online store.

Also Friday, the Women's Theater Company's "A Grand Night for Singing" opens at the Parsippany Playhouse, 1130 Knoll Road. The revue features the music and songs of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. A Grand Night For Singing runs May 17 through June 2; Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students. To purchase tickets online go to www.womenstheater.org or call 973-316-3033, or email
