Council Talks Budget and Waterview, Veterans' Fair Coming This Week

Busy week ahead for Parsippany

Dancing is a great form of exercise and it's also, for most, a lot of fun. And—especially when you're talking about line dances—almost anyone can join in the fun. Line dancing classes for seniors kicked off last month at the Parsippany Community Center and they're still going strong every Monday at 1:30 p.m. Patch plans to join area seniors in tripping the light fandango this week. Electric Slide? Boot scootin' boogie? The Madison? We're ready.

The 2013 municipal budget should get some attention during Tuesday's Township Council agenda meeting this week. The gathering takes place at Parsippany High School under another expectation—that a large turnout will be present for another hot-button topic, the controversial idea to rezone 26.6 undeveloped acres of the Waterview tract to allow the possible construction of a retail-residential development that would include Whole Foods Market, a big-box retailer and a townhouse community. The gathering is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Patch looks at the race for Morris County Clerk: We'll profile the newest candidate, Denville's Zbigniew Nowacki, and visit the newly open campaign headquarters of clerk hopeful and Parsippany resident, Freeholder Ann Grossi.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education turns its attention from the now-approved 2013-14 budget to finding an interim replacement for retiring Superintendent of Schools LeRoy Seitz. Interviews are underway, and if there is progress to report, residents will hear about it at the body's meeting Thursday at the district administration building, 292 Parsippany Road. Odds are good that a discussion on athletic improvements may take place as well. A closed executive session starts at 6:30 p.m.; the public portion of the meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Mayor James Barberio and the town's Council on Veterans' Affairs will host a free Veterans' Outreach Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Parsippany Police Athletic League building at 33 Baldwin Road. The idea behind the event is to show those who have served in the nation's military the wealth of services available to meet their needs. One of those needs is affordable housing—as a preview to the event, we will feature a profile Friday on veteran Seymour Zandell, who is working toward developing a special housing complex to help former soldiers transition into civilian life, and says he will be at Saturday's fair.
