Former Parsippany Superintendent Loses Lawsuit

Judge J. Howard Solomon in Newark ruled against a petition by former Superintendent Dr. Leroy Seitz, stating that the Board of Education was entitled to recoup $17,597.

A petition submitted by former Parsippany Superintendent Dr. Leroy Seitz was turned down by an administrative judge on Thursday, ruling that the town's Board of Education is entitled to recoup salary paid in excess of Gov. Chris Christie's salary cap, according to a recent report. 

Judge J. Howard Solomon in Newark ruled that the Parsippany Board of Education is entitled to recoup $17,597 in salary paid to Seitz over the salary cap of $177,500 imposed by Gov. Chris Christie in February of 2011, the Daily Record reported.

"Personally I feel vindicated," Board President Susy Golderer told the newspaper. "As board president, I feel this is good news for the district, and hope that we can now get on with educating our children."

In June 2011, the Board of Education voted to rescind an agreement it made with Seitz the previous year. This contract paid the superintendent far in excess of a the salary cap.

When the board tried to stand by the pact—even going so far as to take legal action against the meddling state—it only found trouble. Christie labeled Seitz the "poster boy for greed."

Kathleen Serafino, the county executive superintendent of schools, threatened a host of dire conseqences against Seitz and the school district if the contract wasn't rescinded.
