Planning, Zoning, School Boards Meet; Christmas Nears This Week

Happenings in the township over the next seven days.

The  Municipal Alliance Committee, a township advisory committee dedicated to preventing drug and alcohol abuse and destructive decisions holds its monthly meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at the Parsippany Police Athletic League at 33 Baldwin Road. This week, the group is expected to go over ideas for combatting drug abuse in the township suggested by town leaders at last week's Drug Prevention Leadership Summit.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Planning Board holds its December General Business Meeting Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. The agenda may discuss the controversial proposal to bring .

Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors, a free peer-led volunteer support group for people actively looking for work meets Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at the  at 68 Nokomis Ave. in Hiawatha.

The Parsippany Township Council gets down to business at its regular meeting Tuesday at Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. Among the items expected to be discussed are the proposed sewer rate reduction and rebate.

PSGMC peer support group for job seekers meets Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Parsippany-Troy Hills Free Public Library at 449 Halsey Road to hear guest speakers well-versed in all facets of career search and development.

Discussion could center around the athletic field referendum proposal, the situation regarding Parsippany High's football coach and the latest on contract negotiations between the school board and the teachers' union.

The life coach will attempt to address life's questions, from the simple to the complex. The event takes place at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel at 199 Smith Road. Tickets are $44.

Chinese Christian Church of New Jersey,  232 S. Beverwyck Road, will hold its Christmas Celebration Saturday at 6:45 p.m. The program includes the adult and children’s choirs and a skit from the drama team that point to the heart of Christmas. On Sunday, CCCNJ offers three Christmas worship services in different languages: a Chinese-Mandarin service at 9:45 a.m., a ReGeneration worship service in English at 11:30 a.m. and a Taiwanese service at 2 p.m.

Santa comes to south Parsippany Sunday morning. The Mt. Tabor Volunteer Fire Department's annual Santa Tour is on, and oh what fun it will be to see the man with the bag on a shiny fire engine. Mr. Claus asked the folks at Fire District 1 to take him to visit all the good girls and boys in the Powder Mill, Sedgefield, Glacier Hills, Mount Tabor and Puddingstone areas so that he can drop off stockings full of cheer. United Methodist Church of Parsippany, 903 S. Beverwyck Road, presents a special Christmas service Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The festive event to welcome the newborn king with joyful noise features the bell choir and a music-focused program.

In Parsippany, you have two options: The Crossroads Divorce Support Group, a free gathering for divorced men and women of any faith that offers special events, community and healing, is presented at St. Peter the Apostle Church Sunday at 7 p.m. at 179 Baldwin Road. The other group, also offered Sunday at 7 p.m., is called Puzzle Pieces - A Divorced/Separated Support Group. This one is secular and has a fee—just a dollar—and takes place at the Parsippany Police Athletic League Center at 33 Baldwin Road.
