Week in Review: Police Probe Mtn. Lakes Fatal Shooting

: Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the shooting death of  in a Mountain Lakes realty office.  King, 47, was killed Friday night at Exit Realty Gold on Route 46 by a co-worker, real estate agent Leonardo Parera, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi. After the shooting, Bianchi said, Parera fired on police. They returned fire, killing the gunman. : A walk and vigil in remembrance of a woman fatally shot on a Boonton street last August was held Sunday at the town's Jam-E-Masjid Islamic Center. The multidenominational event also included a forum on domestic violence. “Boonton was devastated by the murder of our neighbor Nazish Noorani in August,” the Rev. Laurie Wurm, rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church said. "Our community needed to do something so the horror of that night won’t have the final word in our town and in this young woman’s life." The forum featured local religious leaders from numerous faiths as well as Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi, who offered information on domestic violence prevention. Nazish Noorani was shot and killed in an plot allegedly concocted by her husband, Kashif Parvaiz. Parvaiz and suspected accomplice Antoinette Stephen are in the Morris County Detention Center awaiting trial.

: At Tuesday's Parsippany Town Council meeting, the body settled a longstanding court dispute between the township and Acting Deputy Police Chief Paul Philipps. The case involved a two-year-old employment matter; no terms of the settlement were revealed. The council also heard a number of citizen complaints at its Town Hall session. 

: A Montville man suspected of shoplifting from a Route 46 auto parts store attempted to flee and unsuccessfully tried to disarm an officer before being pepper-sprayed and apprehended Monday night, Parsippany Police said. Michael Trogani, 35, was charged with attempting to disarm an officer, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, obstruction of the adminstration of law, shoplifting and hindering apprehension. An investigation revealed Trogani allegedly stole an ignition coil valued at $190 from the Parsippany Pep Boys, police said. Trogani was lodged at the Morris County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

: Fund raising for a new playground in Parsippany at the Greystone Hospital site is underway. The project, a collaboration between parents and the Alliance for Morris County Parks, will create a playground suitable for all kids, including those with special needs. The first fund raiser for the tentatively titled All-Access Playground, A Place for ALL Children took place Saturday at the park site. Denise Lanza, assistant deputy director of the nonprofit Park Alliance, said the idea for the new playground came more than a year ago from a group of parents of students at the Cedar Knolls-based P.G. Chambers School, which serves children with disabilities.Lanza said the new playground will offer "social and emotional support [for] children with disabilities and their families."
