Power Outage Hits Nearly 10,000 During Rush Hour

Police report no accidents as a result of JCP&L outage.

Power was restored for most residents Wednesday morning at around 9 a.m., after a  power outage affected  nearly 10,000 area residents, most of them in Parsippany, according to a JCP&L spokesman.

The cause of the outage, which occured around 7 a.m., was a downed wire, said Ron Morano, of JCP&L. It also affected residents in Boonton and Mountain Lakes.

With traffic signals not functioning, police were stationed at major intersections to direct traffic and there were no motor vehicle accidents related to the power loss, said Parsippany Police Sgt. Yvonne Christiano.

The outages spanned the Arlington Plaza shopping center along the eastern border of the township to the Mountain Lakes border.

Some burglar alarms went off as a result of the outage, but they weren't triggered by criminal activity, Christiano said.
