Thanksgiving Pies a Favorite at JC's Italian Bakery

Proud Italian-American-owned bakery comes back from the superstorm to serve Parsippany for the holidays.

Superstorm Sandy took a toll on businesses all over the township, but it wasn't strong enough to keep a Parsippany establishment from fulfilling its Thanksgiving duty—providing area families with the traditional sweets people love.

"It's taken us a while to get back on our feet," said a cashier at JC's Italian Bakery in the Parsippany Hills Village strip mall on Route 46 as she rushed around filling shelves with loaves of bread. "But we're back and getting back up to speed."

JC's—which boasts a sign proclaiming that it is owned and staffed by Italian-Americans—lost more than a week of business after losing power thanks to Sandy's blast of winds and rain. A tipped over newspaper box and damaged trees still stand outside the Route 46 as a reminder of the tropical cyclone's fury.

But never fear, Parsippany: The bakery's ovens are back at work, churning out cakes, cookies and bread to adorn holiday tables and fill hungry holiday tummies.

Staffers said that traditionally, pies and pastries are the biggest sellers for Thanksgiving and this year is no exception. There are also intricately decorated cakes, an elegant Limoncello cream dessert served in wine flutes and trays and trays of cookie varieties all baked on the premises.

Outside of actually eating the goodies, there's no better way to get into the Turkey Day spirit than to take a look at what JC's has to offer; enjoy the photographs.

JC's will be open for business on Thanksgiving from 6 a.m.-3 p.m.
