Wind Advisory Issued for Morris County

What's 'going to come down is already down,' township official says.

Morris County could experience high winds until about 6 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Despite warnings that motorists and pedestrians could be at risk for falling branches due to high winds Friday, Parsippany has received no reports of downed trees or branches as of noon.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory through 6 p.m. Winds between 20 and 25 mph with gusts of up to 45 mph are expected to follow an arctic front expected Friday morning.

“With the last two storms we had, I would venture to say that most if not all of the stuff that is going to come down is already down,” said James Walsh, Parsippany’s director of parks and forestry.

He noted that crews have already picked up almost all of the fallen branches from the ground and will be turning their attention to “hangers” and evaluating trees that have been damaged.

"As much colder air surges into the area, the westerly winds will increase and turn rather gusty throughout the day," reads a weather alert from the NWS.

The winds could possibly knock down power lines, making the area at risk for power outages, the NWS said.

The NWS advised motorists to use caution while driving, since high winds can knock down branches and make lighter objects airborne. Homeowners are encouraged to secure objects such as garbage cans and patio furniture.
