Mayor's Request to Impound Ballots Rejected by Judge

John Sette, the Morris County Republican Committee chairman, said about 50 absentee ballots were invalidated by the board of elections because of issues with the signatures.

The mayoral campaign between Mayor Jamie Barberio and Challenger Jonathan Nelson has been controversial, from a feud over a college transcript to business taxes.

On Election day, Barberio came out on top at end of the night. Before the results, his lawyer, Alan Zakin, asked Superior Court Judge James DeMarzo to impound about 1,400 Par-Troy mail-in ballots before they were counted because of voter fraud suspicions, but the judge said that was too extreme to do without something more solid than just a suspicious hunch, according to the Daily Record.

Zakin also filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office about investigating the alleged illegal activities with the mail-in ballots and John Sette, the Morris County Republican Committee chairman, said about 50 absentee ballots were invalidated by the board of elections because of issues with the signatures, according to NJ.com
