Free Documentary "The Cartel" Showing & Discussion for Board Elections
On Thursday, April 21st, at 3:00 PM in the large meeting room of the Morris County Library, the NJTA will hold an open meeting for members and other interested taxpayers. At 5:00 PM the controversial documentary film “The Cartel” will be shown, again, to any and all taxpayers at no charge in the same room.
Additional free showings are scheduled at Roxbury Library on Monday, April 25th at 7:00 PM and at the Kinnelon Library on Tuesday, April 26th at 7:00 PM.
“Personally, I oppose new municipal and school budgets which raise property taxes during such a severe recession,” says Richard DeMarco, NJTA President. “More importantly, I believe that communities should be discussing this with each other as we approach this month’s School Board elections; do people realize that 70% of our property taxes are at stake? The silence is deafening!”

“The Trustees are not taking a position about the film ‘The Cartel’ but we do know that it was widely seen and generates lots of discussion,” adds Christopher Rogers, NJTA Vice President and Roxbury School Board member. “The Trustees do want taxpayer awareness, discussion, questioning, ideas, and voter turnout.”
“Yet another year has gone by with talk about shared services to support good services but very little action,” declares Steve Reichenstein, NJTA Vice President and candidate for Florham Park Mayor. “Personally, I support shared services but not privatizing services, and good public services require public participation.”

“This is the first step in our Education Initiative this year,” explains Richard Clair, NJTA Treasurer and long-serving Trustee. “People definitely are concerned.”
“Education is getting maximum political and media attention so now taxpayers need to step up and join the discussion and decision-making,” sums up Neil Coleman, NJTA Chair and head of legislative affairs. “Changes are happening; so if you taxpayers out there want to have a say … a big say … in the changes, then show up, speak up, and vote.”
