Library 'Food for Fines' Program Seeks to Aid Interfaith Food Pantry

Help the hungry and eradicate your library fines through a new charitable effort at the Morris County Library.

The Morris County Library conducts its “Food for Fines” program over the next few weeks to help stock the shelves of the Interfaith Food Pantry in Morris Plains—and to clear any fines off library patrons’ library cards.

Library Director Lynne Oliver said that those who bring nonperishable food items to the library during regularhours between Oct. 21 and Nov. 9, will have overdue charges waived, as long as the library materials are not damaged or lost.

Among the items most needed by the Interfaith Food Pantry are:

  • individual packets of dry milk
  • condensed milk
  • shelf-stable, 32-ounce size of Parmalat
  • Ensure
  • baby food - stage 1 & stage 3 fruits, vegetables
  • oatmeal and cereal
  • whole grain pasta
  • tomato sauce
  • hearty and regular low-sodium soups
  • dry and canned red, black, pinto and white beans
  • pork and beans
  • peanut butter
  • boxes of macaroni and cheese
  • canned fish, meats and meals
  • low sugar or light syrup canned fruit
  • natural fruit juices with no sugar added
  • diapers and baby wipes.

Patrons are asked to check the dates on the food items they are bringing, because only nonperishable food items that have not expired will be accepted.

The Interfaith Food Pantry is a nondenominational, nonprofit organization helping eligible Morris County families make ends meet by supplementing their monthly groceries in times of need.
