Parsippany Church Members Raise $4K, Will Build New Home for Haitian Family

While her friends hit the beach and work up a sweat while getting a tan, Nicole Dyer will be spending some of her summer in a third-world country, building a house and spread the word of God.

Dyer, 16, who recently finished her sophomore year at West Morris Central High School, is flying to Haiti this month to make good on a promise her family made to a boy and his suffering family.

The Dyers, members of Parsippany Christian Church, have sponsored Achim Belange for the past few years, aiding him with gifts and funds for essentials he needs throughout the year. Bleange is one of six children to a single mother.

When Nicole’s dad, Sean, and brother Tommy visited Achim two years ago, they couldn’t believe the conditions he was forced to live in. Nicole, hearing her family members’ stories upon their return, couldn’t sit and wait, and jumped into action. The upcoming trip has been two years in the making.

In that two years, Nicole Dyer has helped raise $4,000, and with the funds she’ll help build Bleange and his family a new house through Lifeline Christian Mission’s program.

While they’re there, Nicole and Sean Dyer will also lead a one-day sports camp for 100 children in the area. There will be stations of different sports, and Nicole, a Central varsity soccer player, will lead the soccer station. The Dyers will also work in a clinic for babies suffering from malnutrition and assist their mothers on how to take care of the children, all while working in the Grand Goave village and praying for the sick and spreading the Word of God.

Two years of hard work will come to fruition in the matter of days for Nicole Dyer, whose summer vacation will include building a home for someone in need, rather than a tan for herself.
