Roller Derby Hosting Sandy Charity Event

The Psycho 78s will hold a roller derby charity event on July 13 at The Parsippany Presbyterian Church.

The Psycho 78s are ready to start their roller derby season and will be donating the proceeds of their season opener to Sandy relief efforts.

The Psycho 78s is the East coast's first, and New Jersey's only renegade rules roller derby. The season opener will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at Parsippany Presbyterian Church, located at 1675 Rt. 46.

Admission is $10, and all proceeds will be donated to secular, Sandy relief efforts, the team said.

Psycho 78s are coed, and consist of an all star Travel Team as well as three home teams which compete amongst themselves for a yearly championship.

“The team traditionally holds their major charity games at the church, and since 2009 has raised over $10,000 for charity- donating everything to charitable causes and keeping nothing,” said team spokesman Ian Silvers in a written statement. “The team has raised substantial funding for Katrina relief, Tennessee flood relief, Special Blessings (serving children with disabilities), breast cancer research, the USO, the American Red Cross, and Rett Syndrome awareness.”
