Mt. Tabor FD Opens its Doors for Fire Prevention Month

Stop by and you can go up on their 100-foot ladder truck.

The Mt. Tabor Fire Department has responded to 163 fire calls this year so far. Thank them by stopping by their Annual Open House on Sunday at the fire department at 909 Tabor Road in Morris Plains.

"Every year we open our doors to the community during fire prevention month and give tours of the trucks, building and the safety trailer," said Bryan M. Crawford, MTVFD Captain. "The membership looks forward to this day every year. We open our doors to the community and give them a chance to see what we do each time that siren goes off."

At the event, you can travel through the fire safety trailer, climb around and sit on the firetrucks and try on the fire gear. Bring the whole family out and learn fire safety and even go up on their 100-foot ladder truck.

It's time for Fire Prevention Week, and from October 6-12 the Morris County Fire Prevention Association is joining forces with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to remind local residents to ‘Prevent Kitchen Fires.' During this year's fire safety campaign, firefighters and safety advocates will be spreading the word about the dangers of kitchen fires--most of which result from unattended cooking—and teaching local residents how to prevent kitchen fires from starting in the first place.

According to the latest NFPA research, cooking is the leading cause of home fires. Two of every five home fires begin in the kitchen—more than any other place in the home. Cooking fires are also the leading cause of home fire-related injuries.
