Participants raised more than $250K, beating the goal of $235K for the 2013 PurpleStride New Jersey.

Thousands proudly donned purple on Sunday for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness, the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States, according to Todd Cohen, media representative of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

"We had over 2,000 people and raised over $250,000," said Cohen.

They were expecting only 1,500 people and the fundraising goal was $235,000. The 5K walk and run was at PurpleStride New Jersey at the Mack Cali Corporate Complex in Parsippany.

“One year ago, we had to postpone our event due to SuperStorm Sandy, so we are planning on making this year’s event bigger and better than ever before,” said Sandi Field, Affiliate Coordinator. “This event is very important to so many that are afflicted by pancreatic cancer and gives people a chance to honor and remember those battling this disease.”

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network - Northern New Jersey posted some photos of the event. Check them out in this Patch article.
