Par-Troy Teachers Donate $1,850 to Food Pantry

The money will help feed local families in need for Thanksgiving.

The Parsippany Emergency Food Pantry is helping some township families in need this Thanksgiving and thanks to a recent donation, the pantry will now have an easier time fulfilling this task.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Education Association (PTHEA), which includes teachers in all 14 of the district’s schools, have collectively raised $1,850.

On Wednesday, PTHEA President Joseph Kyle presented the check to Lynne Yaccorino of the Parsippany Emergency Food Pantry at the Parsippany Community Center.

“We are indeed grateful to the teachers of Parsippany,” said Yaccorino. “Their individual contributions through the Teachers’ Association will make quite a difference in the lives of many of our residents.”

The sum is the result of individual donations by teachers throughout the district and exceeds the goals set by the PTHEA.

While the majority of the funds came from individual teachers, many secretaries, administrators, custodians and visitors to the school buildings joined the

“We are happy and proud to have spearheaded this drive,” said Kyle, “but the truth is that it has been a community effort; one member of the Parsippany family assisting others.”

The 700+ members of the PTHEA have been contributing spare coins, bills, change and more in each building since before the beginning of the school year.

The Parsippany Emergency Food Pantry collects and distributes food items for residents in need on an ongoing basis.  Donations may be made in person or by calling (973) 263-7163.
