Hollister Construction Services To Sponsor "Main Street Philanthropy" Initiative For N.J. Public High School Students

Hollister Construction Services (Hollister), a leading full-service construction manager specializing in corporate, educational, healthcare, industrial, retail, and residential construction, has signed on as a donor to Main Street Philanthropy, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to inspiring high school students to become active, knowledgeable philanthropists in their communities. Christopher Johnson, founder and CEO of Hollister, has committed to providing funds as part of the initiative’s launch at Franklin High School in Somerset, New Jersey.

Main Street Philanthropy’s mission is to enable high school students to experience the challenges and rewards of charitable giving and fundraising. The 10-week program brings together small groups of students, their classroom teacher, a Main Street Philanthropy Ambassador, donors and front line charities. Using donated funds as well as money they raise themselves, students will identify and work with local non-profit organizations whose missions align with their own charitable interests.

“Philanthropy is a vital characteristic of our society, and I’m thrilled to be partnering with Main Street Philanthropy to encourage and educate the next generation of philanthropists." said Mr. Johnson. “We want these young people to know that they really can make a difference in their communities and improve the lives of those around them.”

Working in small groups, students will examine charities’ tax returns and evaluate their effectiveness in accomplishing their stated purposes. They will interview the organizations’ officers and board members, decide which groups are having the greatest community impact, and then make philanthropic contributions based on their findings. Ron Richter, a Business Psychology teacher at Franklin High School and Yale Levey, Main Street Philanthropy Ambassador and owner of Next Generation Wealth Planning, spearheaded Main Street Philanthropy’s launch in November of 2013.

Hollister Construction Services has made philanthropy a fundamental part of its corporate culture, donating both services and volunteer time to a wide variety of community organizations and causes. To further its community outreach activities, Hollister Construction Services created The Hollister Foundation, an independent charitable organization whose mission is to positively impact the lives of children.
