World War II Vet, Former Parsippany Resident Dies at 89

George Eckert served in the U.S. Military for more than three years.

George Eckert knew his way around Morris County better than most, spending 53 of his 89 years between Parsippany and Rockaway Township.

The former tool and die maker for Bell Labs died recently at the age of 89, according to his obituary. Eckert lived in Parsippany for 40 years and served in the 38th division of the Seabees in World War II from January 1943 to February 1946.

Eckert was born and raised in Newark. He worked at Bell Labs in Murray Hill for more than 30 years before retiring in 1989.

He is survived by five children and six grandchildren. Eckert was buried in Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
