Letter to the Editor: Councilman Responds to Mayor's Accusation

If you have something you want to express, send your Letter to the Editor to natalie.davis@patch.com.

In this Letter to the Editor, Township Council member Michael dePierro shares his response to regarding the mayor's decision to go ahead with an appointment to create a fourth Parsippany Police captain rather than enter another debate of the matter with the full council.

So the mayor called me a liar!

I guess that he forgot that no councilman may speak for, or vote for, the entire Township Council. I admitted, for the record, that I had agreed with the police chief at our meeting. But upon arriving home, I was still not comfortable withhaving a fourth police captain.

I called the mayor and chief and told them that I still had trouble supporting a fourthcaptain. I had assumed that the entire Township Council would discuss the matter further at our Township Council meeting. I believed the mayor when he promised that no promotions would be made until the council could discuss it further.

Not only did the mayor break his promise, he arrogantly did the swearing-in at the Township Council meeting before any councilman could speak. This kind of arrogance should not be displayed between a Republican mayor and an all-Republican council. It sends the wrong message.

I regret that this issue tarnished Capt. Storms' ceremony. He is a fine police officer with a fine record. This issue had nothing to do with him personally and I congratulate him on his promotion.

This issue is not dead. Four councilmen voted to have an ordinance drafted which will limit the police department to three captains. Since we already have four captains, I anticipate that the ordinance, if passed, would take effect when one of the captains retire or get promoted.

So what's the tally of mistakes for our Mayor: divisive handling of FOD, no-bid no research for canned high cost website, no research attempted purchase of Terry Bradshaw scam commercial for Parsippany, ongoing lawsuit related to hostile workforce / clerk and now this. Election time is not coming soon enough!

Not to say that some of us are keeping score but a guess would be alot to nil !! Think in baseball terms that would be a shutout but who is counting.... More of a soccer fan these days :)

As the council turns? Good tv but bad for the town! Mike you give some thought to your statement. You shake hands with the chief & mayor And another councilman, then the call goes out to move forward, the All republican council left out speak to you on the phone (Jim & Paul ) who by the way are planning to run against the mayor in the spring you get cold feet Change YOUR mind and go public with this to make it look like you had no egg on your face! Lol. The new motion you speak of was put up for one reason to block the mayor from doing his job. You thought if the All republican good old boy club could sceem you could prevent the chief and mayor from making the promotion! Last I checked the mayor and chief ran the PD not you guys. So go ahead change the law if you like but know that the way you are going we will have an all dem council soon and mayor! Team parsippany at its worst...
Bob Crawford July 23, 2012 at 05:51 PM
Patchitup1 Thanks for clarifying. So according to you and the people you speak for and who hide behind your anonymous posts, the #1 goal is to keep the current Mayor in power at any and all costs. Heaven forbid that anyone, Republican or not ,have the guts to call it like it is as Mr. diPierro has done. And as for those Republicans, Dems and Independent voters who might not blindly support a Barberio annointed candidate well you know what they can do....... Why do you and the Mayor so fear the bringing forward of divergent points of view to meet the challenges and opportunities facing Parsippany. "My Mayor right or wrong" is a strategy that serves only one person and if he, his cronies and you don't understand that, then the "it" in Patchitup1 is going to be the resume the Mayor will have to patch up when he is looking for his next job in November 2013.

Oh but don't forget about when the mayor claimed he never asked for leniency for a convicted drug offender. Then the Patch published his letter to the sentencing judge which specifically contained the word lenient! That was a real gem.

Bob u can't stand the fact that u are a loser. I do believe the mayor And council have done a lot of good! Patch it up is for them! Not u. You are AGainst Anything that you disagree with, I happen to aree with the mayor and don't work with a Group like you do! You have a Group of people who will do and say anything to go against the current Mayor and Council. I'm sure they will work hard to beat u again when you Run! Rembrr it's easy to be A Monday morning QB. As for the 2013 you will lose yet again!

Councilman De Pierro, its a lovely letter you wrote. Why dont address that fact that you only vote for/ approve ppl and agendas that have donated to your "war chest"...for instance, shoprite liquors, and lets talk about the ordinance you created that allowed Hovnanian to build the townhouses-that was a nice fat donation wasnt it? I'm working on a tally of donations throught the years from Mr. Mossberg;now he's in lawsuit I'm sure he"ll be ringing your bell with another donation so you can help him out. Im sure you can rope in the rest of the council.
Robert Simpson July 23, 2012 at 09:26 PM
Mr. Crawford, you are 100 percent correct. It appears that Mayor Barberio believes he owns Parsippany and he lies to perpetuate this belief. patchitup1 (Jerry Manning) does not have enough grey matter to comprehend the situation.
patchitup1 July 23, 2012 at 10:12 PM
Hey choo choo Charlie here to defend Mr Crawford. Like I stated to you before: Mr Simpson Mad because the town will not spend $700,000.00 to fix a Train horn! Bob Crawford mad cause he is not mayot-councilman-boe member Scott mad cause he was banded from little leage for Life! Carifis brother mad cause he didn't get to be chief! Mossburge mad cause he can't buy the new mayor off. Mike Diperro mad cause he couldn't get his way! The list goes on and on but be carefull if you agree with the Field of dreams or the mayor cause this crew of tough guys who stay home waching over this site may come down on you too .
Scott Dean July 23, 2012 at 11:54 PM
Patchitup you are so ridiculous, you call people out because we dont agree with some obvious blunders. I love to see all the support you and others have for bad decisions by this leadership !!! so much so you cant even post your name. Bravo for your forthrightness.

Scott Dean July 24, 2012 at 01:51 AM
Any of the nameless care to comment on the appointment of the new director of operations for the Knoll East and West ?
VietNam Vet July 24, 2012 at 06:21 AM
I have to agree this mayor has been trying to run his own little world and doesn't like it when he has to abide by the rules and the wants of the people who put him in that office. The Mayor will make it easy for the Democraps to take over the council and the mayor seat come next election.
B. Granger July 24, 2012 at 02:12 PM
well ladies and gentleman, the truth be told! #1 carifi's are mad because the capt wants to be chief but isnt qualified;#2 de pierro wants a job in town to raise his pension; I give this mayor credit for being the outsider and not lining their pockets even more!
Robert Simpson July 24, 2012 at 07:53 PM
Well patchitup (Jerry Manning), I guess you are mad because you don't have the intelligence to evaluate a situation or the courage to use your name. Jerry, write the following down on paper because you don't have enough grey matter to remember. I requested that the town upgrade a dangerous grade crossing with wayside horns at a cost of $70,000. The town engineer recomended a $700,000 reconstruction.
