Ordinance 2014-09 Master Plan Rezone

The township is now pending the passing of a ordinance that would protect land near and about the Great Troy Meadow, a Nationally designated Natural National Landmark. Troy Meadows. Way back in 1954 this area was recognized by the U.S. Department of the Interior as 'the highest quality inland wetland in the State of New Jersey", higher than that of the Great Swamp.   In 1954 our Federal Government had more savy on the environment than local forces. Swamps were to be filled; or treated for mosquito infestation; only the scientific community understood the term "wetland" as a cradle of life. When one came to Parsippany back then, before the Inter-State Highways and the acceleration of sprawl, one could actually feel the presence of this landscape. It is still despite the time a form of a time machine when when visits it, under the proper state of mind. The ancient Lake Passaic that once existed over 10,000 years ago, can still be imagined, seen and felt, if you understand, where you are on the Planet. This giant lake and its shore line and off-shot ponds and lakes were home to the original peoples of whom our Township is named; Pa-sippo-nong.
This township in all its past administrations and rulers is long overdue in recognizing this unique Landscape. It is now being so, thanks to the new Councilman and Mayor Barberio. This ordinance with perhaps a few slight changes in the specific terms of conditions should be applauded by all.
Here are the suggested changes: 1.   Passive recreation; only. No recreational development 2. That the said “Rezoned Block Lots” become a permanent part of the National Natural Landmark inventory of properties, if at all possible under conditions of ownership or sales.
This is why we need our Open Space Funds & Taxes back free and clear.
  Thank You Mayor & Council
