Littleton Road Project Still Has Residents Concerned

The New Jersey Department of Transportation's Interstate 80 project is still disturbing to the residents who live within the scope of the project.

The proposed entrance ramp from Littleton Road/Route 202 North still raises questions in our minds. The right lane of Littleton Road will be used to gain access to the I-80 east ramp.

The ramp from the Frontage Road also known as Littleton Road is proposed to be 100 feet from the I-80 East ramp at Littleton Road. Cars coming from the Marmora to Camden Road areas will use this ramp to access Littleton Road north and south, Cherry Hill Road and I-80.

The Littleton Road corridor is a heavy traveled area. Commuters who work at Mack-Cali, Morris Corporate Center, Lanidex East and West, Waterview Plaza and the Smith Road area use this ramp system to travel to and from work. The residents of Lake Parsippany, comprised of 2,000 homes, use this area to come in and out of the lake area.

The present design is bad enough. The new ramp location for I-80 East will aggravate the dangerous conditions that exist now. There is just 100 feet from one ramp to another at the proposed location for I-80 east and Littleton Road. That does not allow enough stopping time for a car to brake safely. The merge of the cars wanting to access the I-80 east ramp and the cars wanting to merge onto Littleton Road north will have a difficult time traveling through this area.

The residents of Kingston, Marcella, Richard streets and those who live on Littleton Road will now have the problem of increased traffic and another impossible ramp to travel.

Since this intersection was built in the 1980s , the NJDOT has not reviewed the problems of the increase of traffic due to the large development of campus office buildings and their impact on the interchanges at Littleton, Cherry Hill and Kingston roads and the I-80 ramps. This urgently needs to be done.

We are the orphan streets in the lost world of impossible ramps. The NJDOT says, “What a great job we did to solve the I-80 problems.” That's a questionable statement to say the least.

The Department of Transportation is blind when it comes to seeing how to solve the ramp system problems of Littleton Road that affect our local roads and commuters in general. This area should and must be addressed.

Safety should be the state's, the county's and the township’s number one concern. One life lost is one life too many.
