Community Corner

Smokers Rights Have Gone Too Far Too Long Along with Trash as a Norm.

The Township needs to support the Girl-Scout Ban on smoking in Parks. How can smokers not be aware of what they are doing? If you throw a butt, your also litter. A walk down any street you'll see plenty of litter from various sources, but smokers waste, butts, packs and used up lighters are always prominent. SMOKERS RIGHTS ARE THE RIGHTS OF SMOKERS TO POLLUTE WITH IMPUNITY AND LACK OF CONSCIENCE. Its' the right of all to trash our landscapes, and then proclaim our greatness as free Americans.. We really have come to believe our own propaganda. We have replaced "culture" with mass convenience consumption with a evident lack of any respect or conscience discipline. In this sense "capitalism" has failed and we have failed along with it.
We are sloppy in our practice of taking out our trash and recycles. Ignoring how we effect our community.; seems once something gets loose and hits the streets its there forever. Large Property Complexes like Knoll Gardens cannot even manage their trash properly. No efforts by the Municipality toward these bad practices and violations are forth-coming; for example trash dumpsters along Knoll Road are not fenced in to prevent the spreading of trash along Knoll Road.  This is proof of our lack of community. We create "imaginary" but "real" lines that separate us from each other and our commonality as people living in a place. What little efforts it would take to clean the very streets in front of us from our own trash goes undone. We need to enforce our Municipal Trash and Litter Ordinances. Everyone from the home owners to the stores and businesses operating in the Town need to adhere to "conscience discipline" in handling the trash. Chronic violators need be fined.
The same Nation that put a man on the Moon and rules the world in our image cannot even take out the garbage. It is quite alarming that more people are not disturbed by our trashed landscapes; that litter is now the excepted norm. It is everywhere.
