Red Hawks Opened the Season at the Annual Lid Lifter!

The Red Hawks kicked off the 2014 Winter Track Season on Thursday, Dec 19th at the O’Leary Lid Lifter at Drew University.  With the team being limited to practicing indoors due to recent freezing and snowy conditions, some team members were concern going into the meet.  Speaking with Coach Bleuler prior to the meet, he spoke of the runners' concern and told them that other schools are in the same boat in being limited to indoor practices and that the conditioning drills that team has been doing will prove sufficient training for the 1st meet.  As always, the Coach was right as the Red Hawks earn top finishes in several events.

Junior Malik Francis finished 3rd in the 55 hurdles in 8.17 and led off on the 3rd place 4x200 meter relay (Malik Francis, Christian Hulse-Carr, Aaron Wood, Josh Crawford).  On the Girls side, Junior Ally Schlosser took 1st place in 1000 meter run with a time of 3:21.82.  Ally, who suffered a season ending injury during cross country was in tears of joy when the results were announced that she finished 1st from the second heat.  Senior Bria Saunders finished 2nd in the 55m in 7.42 and was able to use her closing speed on the 4x200 meter relay (Amanda Angulo, Gabby Rachmaciej, Jen Mlynar, Bria Saunders) to earn a 6th place finish.   Other noteworthy Red Hawk performers, were new comers Haley Pignatelli and Aaron Wood. Haley a freshmen finished 8th in the 1600 meter run in 5:43.75 and 5th place in 1000 meter run in 3:23.88.  Aaron a senior, finished 17th in 600m in 1:32.12 and ran  on the 3rd place 4x200m relay.  With the addition of such runners like Haley and Aaron,  Coach Bleuler and Coach DeGironimo  have several options for upcoming Gardiner Holiday Relays on Saturday, Dec 21st at Drew University.
