2 DWI Arrests, 1 Charged With Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Three motor vehicle stops last week resulted in three arrests.

Three motor vehicle stops resulted in two DWI arrests and one possession of drug paraphernalia charge last week, said Tuesday.

Sgt. Thomas Pomroy conducted a motor vehicle stop of a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer on Route 46 near Smith Road Sunday at about 1:55 a.m., police said. Pomroy determined the driver, Ovidio Vargas, 56, of Paterson, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Vargas was charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving and was released to the custody of a family member after processing at headquarters.

Officer George Tsimpedes responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver on North Beverwyck Road last Wednesday at about 7:45 p.m., police said.

Tsimpedes located the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop in a parking lot on North Beverwyck Road, police said. Tsimpedes determined the driver, Branden J. Bertero, 18, of Parsippany, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Bertero was charged with driving while intoxicated in a school zone, careless driving and failure to exhibit insurance card and was released to the custody of a family member after processing.

Officer Jason Ferreira observed a 2010 Honda with a cracked front windshield traveling eastbound on Route 10 last Wednesday at about 10:40 p.m., police said.

Following a motor vehicle stop, Ferreira determined a backseat passenger, Robert A. Kyle, 31, of Webster, Mass., was allegedly in possession of a glass pipe containing suspected marijuana residue, police said.

Kyle was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and released on his own recognizance.
