$80K in Loot Stolen While Homeowner Showered

Rare coins, jewelry taken from Lake Hiawatha home, police said.

More than $80,000 in rare coins and jewelry were stolen from a Lake Hiawatha home while the homeowner was showering early Monday morning, Parsippany Police said.

Police said officers were called to the Norman Avenue home at about 1:30 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of a burglary.

The homeowner told officers that after he had taken a shower, he walked into the kitchen and saw that the door leading from his kitchen to his basement was open, police said. Also reported being left open was a door that leads into the house's garage from the basement and the exterior garage door, police said.

Police said the officers checked the home's exterior and canvassed the area, but found nothing.

The Morris County Criminal Investigation Division processed the crime scene for evidence, and Det. Joseph Puso of the Parsippany Police Investigative Division continued the investigation, police said.

Police reported that a safe containing an estimated $82,000 in rare coins and jewelry was missing from an office in the home.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or suspicious activity in the area is asked to call the PPD at 973-263-4300 or send e-mail to crime_tips@parpolice.com
