After Being Woken Up, Man Allegedly Tries to Flee From Police

New York resident faces DWI and drug charges in incident on Campus Drive.

A officer needed to smash a vehicle's window to stop a New York man from apparently fleeing a parking lot on Campus Drive after he was found asleep and allegedly under the influence of alcohol and in possession of drugs Saturday morning, police said Tuesday.

Hector E. Isaza, 44, of Corona, N.Y., was charged with possession of controlled dangerous substances and possession of less than 50 grams marijuana, police said. He was also issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and driving while suspended, police said.

Officer Jason Lubeck observed Isaza asleep in the backseat of a vehicle in the parking lot of 1 Campus Drive at about 10 a.m., police said. The officer also noticed a white powder around Isaza's mouth and nose, police said.

According to police, Isaza would not let Lubeck or Officer William Stone into the vehicle and allegedly started the vehicle and attempted to leave the scene.

Stone then smashed one of the vehicle's windows to gain entry and remove Isaza, police said. According to police, several several bags of a white powdery substance, along with a wrapper containing what appeared to be marijuana were allegedly found in the vehicle.

Isaza was arrested and transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Police also made an arrest on Feb. 19 at around 12:40 a.m., when officers responded to the area of Vail and Reservoir roads after a car veered off the road and hit a low block wall, police said.

According to police, Officer Marc Fernandez found a 2000 Honda, but the driver had left scene.

A man approached Fernandez and identified himself as a family member of the driver, telling him that the driver was “scared” and had gone to his home.

The driver, Teodor Neral, 25, of Parsippany, returned to the scene and was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated, police said.

He was transported to headquarters for processing and charged with DWI and refusal to submit to breath samples and was released to the custody of a family member, police said.
