Bicyclist Injured After Struck by Van, Police Say

Authorities said the person on the bike and the driver of vehicle both taken to the hospital.

say a 28-year-old township resident was struck by a van while riding his bike along Route 46 Monday evening.

The bicyclist, unidentified by police, was transported to a local hospital for undisclosed injuries following the incident. The driver who hit him was also transported to an area hospital for injuries consistent with seat belt impact. 

Police say Officer Alfred Keiser was called to the scene near Route 46 and New Road at about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday. When he arrived, the bicyclist was on the ground and was being assisted by an off-duty emergency medical technician, who police said happened upon the crash.

The driver of the 2000 GMC van, also unidentified by police, is a 68-year old Boonton resident, police said.

Police report that Accident Investigator Douglas Weidanz is investigating the matter with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
