'Butterfly' Sex Fantasy Lands Parsippany Man in Jail, Cops Say

David J. Reiser of Parsippany was arrested for allegedly arranging a sexual tryst with a 13-year old girl while dressed as a butterfly.

A Parsippany man was arrested Wednesday after attempting to act out a sexual fantasy with a 13-year old girl while he was dressed as a butterfly, Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.

David J. Reiser, 19, who works at pet hotel in Harding Township, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with various sexual misconduct charges.

According to Berdnik, an undercover investigation began in an online chat room three weeks prior to the arrest in which a Passaic County Sheriff's officer posed as a 13-year old girl.

Reiser created a profile as a 15-year old boy in a chatroom and began speaking with the officer, eventually revealing his real age, Berdnik said in statement.

The conversation led to text messages and phone calls, and he planned to meet with who he believed was a 13-year-old girl near her home while her parents were at work, police said.

“From there Reiser wished to return to the girl’s home and have sex with her and play out some type of fantasy scenario, involving Reiser dressing in a butterfly costume,” said Berdnik.

Reiser arrived at a predetermined location in Woodland Park at approximately 11:50 am on Wednesday in a red Dodge Neon.

He was immediately placed under arrest without incident, and his car was impounded and towed from the scene, according to the report.

“Reiser declined to speak with investigators, and his cellphone was seized during his arrest,” police said.

Reiser was charged with attempted sexual contact with a minor, attempted sexual assault of a minor, attempted endangering the welfare of a minor and attempted luring and enticing a minor.

Superior Court Judge Marilyn Clark set Reiser’s bail at $100,000, no 10 percent option, and he was lodged in the Passaic County Jail pending a first appearance.

“The message is clear, you attempt to go into Passaic County for the purpose of having a sexual relationship with a minor, you will be arrested,” said Berdnik. “The Sheriff’s Office has a zero tolerance for anyone who is attempting to exploit a child.”
