Police say the woman stole from and attempted to flee a Parsippany filling station and convenience store.

Parsippany Police say a Mt. Arlington woman is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail in the Morris County jail following an early Monday morning theft at the Exxon on the Run gas station at Parsippany Blvd. and Route 46 in which she allegedly stole candy bars.

Stevie Verbesky, 27, is facing a robbery charge in connection with the incident, police said.

At about 1:20 a.m., police were called to the station, which also includes a convenience store, in regard to the reported theft, which had just occurred, according to a police statement.

The report said the On the Run clerk told Officer Jason Ferreira that a white female in her mid-20s who had long blonde hair and was wearing a black jacket and black pants entered the store and spent about 15 minutes shopping. The clerk reported seeing the woman taking candy off of the shelf and concealing it on her person.

The police statement continued, saying the woman placed numerous other candy items on the counter and handed the clerk a $20 bill.

"The clerk then advised her that he had seen her concealing candy on her person," stated department spokesperson Ptlm. Earl Kinsey. "The woman then reached over the counter and began hitting the clerk before grabbing the $20 bill and ripping it in half as she pulled away and ran from the store to a vehicle that was parked outside."

The vehicle, described by Kinsey as a four-door silver Nissan, reportedly left the scene and drove away eastward on Route 46. He said police officers canvassed the area and located the car and Verbesky in the parking lot of the Route 46 Days Inn Parsippany within an hour.

The woman was arrested, charged and remanded to Morris County Jail, according to the statement.
