100 Gallons of Liquid Asphalt Ignites Pickup Truck

The fire was deemed accidental and no one was hurt.

About 100 gallons of liquid asphalt ignited a pickup truck fire last Friday on Spartan Avenue, police said.

Officer Brian Conover, Parsippany-Troy Hills Fire Association and Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Co. got to Spartan Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. and when Conover arrived, he saw “the rear portion of a Ford F350 engulfed in flames,” police said.

The driver told Conover that there wasn’t anyone inside, but the “vehicle contained 100 gallons of liquid asphalt and a propane tank,” so additional officers came to block off the area while the firefighters put out the flames, according to a release from Chief Paul Philipps.
