Cops: Drunk Man's Car Lands on Other Side of Rt. 46

Parsippany resident's vehicle hit center median at high rate of speed before coming to rest on opposite side of highway.

A Parsippany man is accused of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving following a crash that sent his vehicle over the top of a Route 46 guide rail onto the opposite side of the highway early Sunday morning, according to .

Venkatesh Mannava, 30, also faces charges of hindering apprehension, failure to stop, failure to show officers his driver's license and registration, refusal to submit to breath tests and failure to wear a seatbelt, police said.

Officers arrived at the area near Route 46 and Parsippany Boulevard just before 2 a.m., police said.

According to police, a 2012 Audi A5 had exited Columbus Way onto Route 46 eastbound at a high rate of speed, causing the driver to lose control of the car, which struck the center median curb and then the center median guide rail before going over the top of the rail. The vehicle came to rest facing eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 46, police said.

Police said there were no injuries in the crash.

Police said when the officers attempted to interview Mannava, he denied being the driver of the vehicle.

Mannava was arrested and transported to police headquarters before being released to the care of a friend pending a court appearance.
