Cops: Residents Home During Break-In Attempt

The incident occurred Friday night at a residence on Carlton Drive.

are investigating an attempted burglary Friday at a house on Carlton Drive.

According to police, residents of the home contacted authorities after hearing a rattling noise coming from their front door Friday at about 9:30 p.m. One resident said the sound became a banging noise when she approached the door, police said.

Officer Michelle Kardos responded to the call and spoke with residents, police said, and concurrently, other responding officers set up a perimeter around the neighborhood.

Police said a K-9 Unit from the Morris County Sheriff’s Department was called in as well to help canvass the neighborhood. However, the search was unsuccessful.

Kardos reported the lock on the house's front door did not appear to be working propertly and that the door itself had been forced slightly off of its frame, police said.

A probe into the incident continues, according to police.
