Daily Record: Parsippany Resident Gets 10 Years for Assaulting, Slashing and Threatening Ex-Girlfriend

Defense attorney says James Sgambati showed bad judgement but never meant to hurt his ex.

A Superior Court judge sentenced 32-year-old James Sgambati to 10 years in prison for aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, witness tampering and weapons offenses. The charges stem from a 2007 event in which Parsippany resident Sgambati reportedly ran his ex-girlfriend Tara Sandillo off of Route 280, slashed her in the face and arm and threatened her to force her to drop charges against him. Sgambati was convicted on the charges earlier this year. Superior Court Judge David Ironson also ruled that Sgambati is a persistent offender with multiple convictions for offenses. He won't be eligible for parole consideration until after he has served at least three years of his sentence.
