Daily Record: Parsippany's Former Acting Fire Chief Indicted on Charges of Arson, Official Misconduct

A former Parsippany volunteer fire fighter and acting chief and suspended Morris County sheriff's officer received indictments from a county grand jury on 10 counts. Jason Campbell, 33, allegedly torched two structures in the township deliberately.

Campbell faces charges of burglary, aggravated arson, two counts of attempted aggravated arson, two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated arson and four counts of official misconduct.

The indictments stem from two incidents: a fire set at 116 Old Bloomfield Ave. in September 2008 (in which Campbell allegedly convinced a teenager into assisting him) and the burglary and arson of a structure at 12 Ute Ave. in June 2010.

At the times when the fires were set, Campbell was the acting chief for Parsippany Fire District No. 5 and a supervisor of the Morris County Sheriff's Office Explorer Program, according to the prosecutor's office. Campbell was charged for the crimes in February of this year and has been suspended from his job in the sheriff's office ever since.

The teenager who allegedly helped with the 2008 incident was under Campbell's supervision in the Explorer program.

Last year, the 200 Club of Morris County honored Campbell for helping rescue a pregnant woman from an overturned car submerged in a marsh, according to a story in northjersey.com.
