Drunk Driver Causes Chain-Reaction Crash, Cops Say

Vernon man charged with DUI, careless driving in incident on West Hanover Avenue near Shongum Road.

A Vernon man was drunk when he caused a four-car chain reaction accident Wednesday afternoon on West Hanover Avenue, Parsippany Police said.

Gary Geiger, 46, was charged with DUI and careless driving in the crash on West Hanover Avenue near Shongum Road Wednesday at about 5:30 p.m.

Geiger's vehicle failed to stop when vehicles in front of him slowed down and he struck the vehicle in front of him, according to Officer Earl Kinsey, a spokesman for the police department.

"That vehicle struck the car in front of it, which in turn struck the fourth vehicle that was involved," according to the release. 

Kinsey said no one needed to be hospitalized.

Geiger was released pending a court appearance.
