Eight Homes Burglarized in Less Than a Week

Police investigating break-ins between Friday and Tuesday.

A rash of burglaries over a five-day stretch is being investigated by the and Morris County Sheriff's Office, police said Tuesday.

The burglaries, in Lake Hiawatha and near Morris Plains, off Tabor Road, occurred between Friday and Tuesday, and in each case, entry was gained through windows, police said.

  •  On Friday, A Hastings Road home was entered through an unlocked kitchen window after the screen was pried open, police said. Jewelry was reported missing from the home, which was unoccupied between 5:15 and 8:35 p.m., police said.
  • Also on Friday, an unlocked home on Tabor Road was burglarized between 4:30 and 9:45 p.m., police said. Residents arrived home and discovered a ransacked master bedroom. Stolen items included jewelry, Chinese currency and an iPad, police said.
  • A third home was burglarized on Friday between 6:30 and about 11:45 p.m. Entry was gained to the Manchester Street single family dwelling via an unlocked window, and the master bedroom, home office and spare bedroom were ransacked, police said. Cash, jewelry and a home safe were reported stolen, police said.
  • On Saturday, a home on Stony Hill Court was burglarized sometime between Friday at 7:45 a.m. and Saturday at 1 a.m., police said. Entry was gained via a first-floor window, police said. Items stolen from the family room included a Wii gaming system and a digital camera, police said.
  • On Sunday, a Christopher Street home that was unoccupied for a a week was discovered burglarized, police said. The screen on a kitchen window was  cut. The master bedroom was ransacked and approximately $3,000 in cash was reported stolen. 
  • On Monday, a home on Richard Street that was unoccupied for several months was discovered burglarized, police said. A kitchen window was forcibly entered and various jewelry items totaling $8,100 were reported missing, police said.
  • Another home on Manchester Street that had been unoccupied for a few days was discovered burglarized on Monday. Entry was gained through a bathroom window, police said. Proceeds of that burglary are unknown. 
  • A home on Crown Point Road was entered between the morning hours Monday and the early-morning hours Tuesday. Entry was gained through a rear window, and the second floor master bedroom and a home office were ransacked, police said. Two watches with a total value of $1,000 were taken.
