FBI Reports Overall Drop in Crime in Parsippany for 2010

Report released Monday shows reductions in violent crimes, burglaries, property crimes and theft.

The FBI released its national Crime in the U.S. report today, and the statistics offer some good news for Parsippany. 

The overall picture shows that despite issues surrounding police staffing and budgets, the incidence of crime in most categories went down in 2010 from the figures reported a year before.

Violent crimes, which numbered 27 in 2009, dropped to 19, according to the report. The incidences of property crimes fell as well, from 695 cases in 2009 to 566 in 2010. Dips were also seen in the categories of burglary,  larceny-theft, aggravated assault.

Increases occurred in the categories of forcible rape (increased from one to two incidents), motor vehicle theft (up one occurence to 27) and robbery (from eight in 2009 to nine the next year).

Cases of arson and murder/non-negligent manslaughter remained at zero.
