Lake Hiawatha House Fire Shuts Down Lake Shore Dr.

No one injured in now-extinguished blaze.

A fire in a section of Lake Hiawatha that was heavily affected by Hurricane Irene caused visible damaged to the garage and left black marks on the main portion of a home on Seminole Avenue on Tuesday.

Fire fighters have knocked down the blaze at 21 Seminole Ave., which has shut down Lake Shore Drive at the intersection of the two roads. Residents of the home were not present at the time of the fire. Two painters were working on the home, but neither were injured.

"I was just getting home from school when I saw it," neighbor Angela Markoska, a senior at Parsippany High School, said. "There was smoke and more smoke coming out of the windows and all over."

Parsippany Police Department fire investigator Dave Guth said an investigation has begun into the fire's cause. Firefighters are also currently poking holes into the roof to ventilate smoke that still remains in the structure.

Parsippany Fire Districts 4 and 5 responded to the scene, as well as the Boonton Fire Department. Also responding were Rockaway Neck and Par-Troy first aid squads, as well as the Parsippany Police Department.
