Lake Hiawatha Man Struck Gas Attendant, Stole Cash

James Ross, 23, was identified in connection with a Boonton gas station robbery, police said.

A Parsippany man was arrested in Boonton Friday after he hit a gas attendant and stole cash from him, police said.

James Ross, 23, of Lake Hiawatha, was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and theft. Ross allegedly robbed a BP Amoco Gas Station located on West Main Street in Boonton on June 2, the Daily Record reported.

Police were called to the gas station on a report that a man had struck the gas attendant numerous times, while threatening his life and demanding his money. The man fled after taking from $100 to $200 in cash, police said.

An investigation by the Boonton Police Detective Bureau led to James Ross being identified.

Ross was being detained in the Morris County Jail on unrelated charges, when he was charged with the robbery, the newspaper said. His bail was set at $100,000.
