UPDATE: Live Downed Wires Spark Tree Fire on Noble Street

JCP&L crew has completed repairs.

A Jersey City Power & Light crew reports electricity has been restored in the area near Noble Street and Kings Court, where downed power lines ignited a tree Tuesday afternoon. 

According to firefighters from , gusting winds knocked down electrical wires that sparked against a tree in a wooded section of Noble Street, creating flames and smoke.

The JCP&L crew shut off power and trimmed back the singed tree. Electricity was restored just after 4 p.m.

 have reopened the section of Noble Street near the wooded area.

No injuries were reported, but a JCP&L crew member warned residents to be mindful of trees overhead when winds are excessive.

If you hear the sound of cracking tree limbs, he cautioned, get out of the way.
