Lost License Plate Leads to DWI Arrest

A Parsippany man was arrested after losing his license plate in multiple crashes and fleeing the scene, police said.

A man was arrested at home for allegedly driving while intoxicated (DWI) after police found his license plate at the scene of a hit-and-run where several cars were damaged.

At 2:02 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, Officers Paul Levi and Steven Miller were called to Raymound Boulevard near the intersection of Leah Way to investigate a motor vehicle crash, police said.

By the time the officers arrived the driver had already fled the scene.

“Their crash investigation revealed that a vehicle left the roadway at a high rate of speed, drove across the front yard of a residence, struck a vehicle parked in a driveway, exited the driveway, struck a vehicle parked on the roadway pushing it into another parked vehicle and then fled the scene of the crash,” said Parsippany Community Relations Officer Earl Kinsey.

No injuries were reported in any of the accidents.

During the multiple crashes, the car's license plate had fallen off, which police used to determine the address of the driver, Dave Majumdar, 25, of Parsippany.

Majumdar had driven the car home and parked it inside of his garage, said Kinsey.

He was arrested and processed at police headquarters before being released pending a court appearance.

He was charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, reckless driving, careless driving and speeding across a sidewalk.
