Man, 39, Killed After Teenager Allegedly Runs Stop Sign

Fatal crash occurred at intersection of Northfield and Allentown roads.

A 39-year-old man was killed when his vehicle was T-boned Monday night after a 17-year-old male with a provisional license apparently ran a stop sign at the intersection of Northfield and Allentown roads, said Tuesday.

The 39-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:58 p.m., police said. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

According to police, the man was traveling westbound on Allentown Road in a 2008 four-door Honda Civic when the driver's side of his vehicle was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was heading north on Northfield Road, police said.

Police said the teenage driver allegedly "disregarded the stop sign" at the intersection of Northfield and Allentown roads that caused the crash in the Lake Parsippany section of town shortly before 7 p.m.

According to Sgt. Yvonne Christiano, the teenager was driving "at a high rate of speed." The road's speed limit in this area is 25 miles per hour.

The 17-year-old was also in violation of his provisional license since there were three other passengers in the vehicle, ages 17, 16 and 15, police said.

None of the juveniles were injured in the crash, Christiano said.

Charges are pending against the 17-year-old driver.
